Flashback Review – Randy Travis “Spirit of a Boy, Wisdom of a Man”

Flashback Review – Randy Travis “Spirit of a Boy, Wisdom of a Man”

It may not be his biggest hit, but i believe this is right up there with Three Wooden Crosses and Forever and Ever Amen as one of the best singles of his career. The third single from his first album on DreamWorks, You and You Alone was released on October 5, 1998. The song peaked at number 2 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart on January 30th, 1999. The original version of the song was from Mark Collie’s 1995 album Tennessee Plates.

To me, Spirit of a Boy, Wisdom of a Man serves and a reminder that whatever choice we make in life we have to live with no matter which of the two voices we heed. No better example of this than Travis’ own life, whether its his many run ins on the wrong side of the law or his legendary country career. What happened to songs like this? What happened to life lessons, to substance?

The production starts out slow, with piano and fiddle then shifts to accoustic guitar and Travis’ signature vocals start. We find ourselves taking a journey through young love all the way up to it going too far. To where the the teenager has to decide which road to take. Whether hes going to be a boy and run, or be a man and take the responsibility on. We go through the bridge that reminds us that “you live with decisions you make in your life” to emerge later in life. We find ourselves agian at the crossroads agian of wondering which road he will choose. Whether he does the wrong thing or the right. This one, like alot of good country songs leaves us to form our own conclusion. Thats part of the beauty of this song in my opinion.

The vocals, production,  and songwriting are all top notch here. I cant find anywhere I would change the song period……5 stars

Wtf CMT..Chicken People!!!???..In My Humble Opinion

Scheduled to be on CMT 8 pm Wedsday, i feel like a moron even watching the promo. The description from CMT.com reads:

ABOUT THE FILM

Chicken may be just food for most people, but raising the perfect chicken is an all-consuming passion for some. CMT is teaming up with Emmy Award-winning Motto Pictures, also this year’s Sundance Grand Jury Prize (U.S. Documentary) Winner for Weiner, and Emmy nominated director Nicole Lucas Haimes forChicken People, a two-hour documentary that takes a charming and fascinating look at the colorful and hugely competitive world of champion show chicken breeders. A real life Best in Show but about chickens, the film follows the struggles and triumphs of both humans and their chickens on the road to compete at the Ohio National Poultry Show, considered the Westminster of Chickens. Chicken People is produced by Motto Pictures and Haimes Film, with Julie Goldman, Caroline Kaplan, Chris Clements, and Terry Leonard producing. Nicole Lucas Haimes executive produces and Jayson Dinsmore, Lewis Bogach and John Miller-Monzon executive produce for CMT

Ok I’m sure some of ya’ll are saying “So its just a chicken movie…whats the big deal”. The big deal is CMT (which is COUNTRY MUSIC Television the last I checked) keeps throwing stupid shit out there that makes Country Music like like a joke. Why of all things have a documentary about people that moreless molest chickens to win a trophy, when you could make a documentary about a country star or a legend ( you know actually living up to the name) instead of this bs or even stupider trash like Party Down South for example.

The network only has 5 hours of music videos a day, maybe 15 played over and over, that even remotely qualify and music let alone Country Music. And thats it, unless its time for the CMT awards, which are a joke anyway. Its bs to me that 19 hours of the day are filled with crap such as Roseanne, Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, Last Man Standing, Random movies etc.Ill take back one hour for the inclusion of Reba, but thats still 18 hours where not shit has to do with Country Music!

CMT has earned its reputation over the 10 to 12 years of being a joke because of the horrible original programing they sell to the masses. They either need to make CMT country agian, or lose the name altogether. Please quit making a mokery of Country Music and the fans that love it so much. Show a little respect instead of riding a name to pad your ass.
